Kentucky Partners with Hamilton-Ryker to Create New Apprenticeship Programs in Lexington
FRANKFORT, Ky., March 12, 2019 /PRNewswire/ — Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet (EWDC) Deputy Secretary Mike Nemes joined officials from Hamilton-Ryker in Lexington today to announce the creation of new manufacturing and IT apprenticeship programs.
As a program sponsor and intermediary, Hamilton-Ryker’s «TalentGro» offers Registered Apprenticeships that will serve as a pipeline in both manufacturing and IT. With over 20 different paid apprenticeship roles, apprentices will work alongside experienced professionals in manufacturing and IT to develop skills and advance in their careers.
«Registered Apprenticeships provide a proven training model for employers to grow their own workforce,» said EWDC Deputy Secretary Mike Nemes. «At the same time, Kentuckians have the opportunity to begin training in a high-skilled profession that can lead to a great career in a high demand job sector. Together, this is a winning solution for everyone and another example of our commitment to equip Kentuckians with the resources and skills to engage in competitive job market.»
Hamilton-Ryker is one of the largest employee-owned staffing organizations in the country, providing workforce solutions for industrial, administrative and information technology staffing and recruitment. Through «TalentGro,» the agency will address the skills gap in today’s workforce by using a mix of education and training, real-world application and on-the-job training.
«TalentGro» will serve as an intermediary for companies of all sizes to offer Registered Apprenticeships with the ultimate goal of insuring the workforce is trained on the skills and knowledge need to meet the employers’ goals.
«We are one of the first staffing agencies in the country to launch this type of workforce development solution, which offers a Pre-Apprenticeship that leads into the Registered Apprenticeship,» said Shari Franey, Chief Operating Officer of Hamilton-Ryker. «A unique feature of our solution is the focus on employing veterans for both our production/maintenance technician and IT coder and programmer apprenticeships.»
The Education and Workforce Development Cabinet acts as the governing body for Registered Apprenticeships in Kentucky and provides technical and consultative services to employers. The «Kentucky Trained. Kentucky Built.» campaign was launched in 2016 to signal the cabinet’s commitment to strengthening and growing Registered Apprenticeships across the Commonwealth.
